I’m familiar with Nick Juaquin, Lualhati Bautista, and Amado Hernandez. The latter’s book – Mga Ibong Mandaragit-was the only Filipino novel book that I read from cover to cover for pleasure. But literally, I’m not a fan of novels but I like reading interesting short stories, poems, children’s books and essays. These are the reason why I’d like to try and promote Poptastik Pinoy of Ayala Museum, National Book Development Board (NBDB), at Filipinas Heritage Library (FHL).
Poptastik Pinoy
Ilan pa sa topic na pag-uusapan dito ay ang Folklore in Pop Literature (komiks, graphic novels, novels, short stories, and TV), Kuwentuhan on Komiks; at Writing in Different Genres.” Narito rin comic artists na sina Manix Abrera, Noel Pascual, AJ Bernardo, Karen Francisco, at Budjette Tan; novelists Eros Atalia, Luna Sicat Cleto, at Edgar Samar; scriptwriters Suzette Doctolero and Salvador Royales; fictionists Efren Abueg at Yvette Tan; playwright Rodolfo Vera; journalist Ruel de Vera; and Prof. Patrick Campos.
Inspiration Modern Pop writers today: Folk stories
- Can you tell your story of the city in 100 words?
- How and why do comic writers/artists source Philippine folklore in their works?
- How does the city influence/shape the works of komiks writers/artists?
- How and why do writers of fiction and popular literature source Philippine folklore in their works?
- What are the joys and challenges of writing popular literature in different forms, from print to film?
- How to Write a Book?
